Information regarding the deposit guarantee scheme for deposits opened at Credit Europe Bank NV Amsterdam Bucharest Branch

Deposits held by clients of Credit Europe Bank NV Amsterdam Bucharest Branch are protected by the Dutch Deposit Guarantee Scheme, operated by the Dutch Central Bank (De Nederlandsche Bank N.V. / "DNB") on behalf of the Dutch government. All banks with a Dutch banking licence, are protected by this scheme.

The Dutch Deposit Guarantee Scheme is similar to the deposit guarantee system recognized in Romania, known as the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund. Both guarantee schemes are based on the same European legislation, namely Directive 2014/49/EU  concerning deposit guarantee schemes.

The role of the deposit guarantee scheme

The deposit guarantee scheme protects clients from financial losses if a credit institution is unable to meet its financial obligations. It ensures the reimbursement of funds deposited in bank accounts in accordance with the specified conditions.

Similar guarantees in Romania and applicable limits

The Dutch Deposit Guarantee Scheme is similar to the Romanian Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund. Therefore, funds held in current, savings, or deposits accounts at Credit Europe Bank NV Amsterdam Bucharest Branch are guaranteed from 1 cent up to 100,000 EUR per customer. It matches the guarantee ceiling set by the Bank Deposits Guarantee Fund in Romania. This guarantee applies regardless of whether you are an individual or a legal entity and is independent of the number of accounts held or their currency. There are several exceptions to this deposit guarantee scheme. More information about the deposit scheme and list of excluded deposits can be found in the Deposit Guarantee Scheme Information sheet

How the deposit guarantee scheme works

Should the deposit become unavailable because the credit institution is unable to meet its financial obligations, DNB will manage the process through which clients will recover their funds. Specifically, clients will be informed and will receive due compensation through the Bank Deposit Guarantee Fund in Romania, which will act based on instructions received from the Dutch authorities. Therefore, customers do not need to travel to the Netherlands to receive their compensations.

The deadline for depositors to receive their due compensations is no more than 7 working days from the date the deposits became unavailable.

Should the deadline not be respected, clients can contact the Guarantee Fund in Romania, which will mediate communication, or depositors can directly reach out to the Dutch Deposit Guarantee Scheme for clarifications, provided compliance with the legal deadlines for compensation claims.
